Actually, it just doesn't mention PAL at all.

My TV's manual doesn't state that it handles PAL, only NTSC. I don't want anything fancy, functionality wise, or care about playing "backups", just to play trouble-free original imports, Euro PAL and maybe later Jap NTSC.

So, which is it? If there's no way around getting a mod chip, which one is the one to get? Since I would be buying a brand new PS2, I'd be afraid of screwing up the soldering on it, so I'd also like referrals to places who sell brand new PS2s with mod chips installed for a fair price (a $200 markup is not a fair price when the chip is only $50). I know that I would need a mod chip (or flip top) to play Japanese imports, but what about Euro? I see three possibilities and don't know which is the case:ġ) I would need BOTH a mod chip (or flip top) AND an external PAL->NTSC converter.Ģ) I would only need a mode chip (or flip top) because the PS2 can somehow magically handle the PAL->NTSC conversion internally.ģ) I would only need a external PAL->NTSC converter because euro PAL games will run on a standard US PS2, I would just need to converter for my TV. imports, but I would like to be able to get some of the European PAL "Dancing Stage" games (Euro equivalent of DDR) because I like some of the licensed tracks on them. That said, I think I would be happy sticking to the US NTSC games for most things, don't care so much about Jap. DDR, taiko Drum Master, light gun games and maybe other, more obscure Bemani if it catches my fancy. So, that's all my PS2 would really get used for. I've been playing a lot of DDR on my Xbox and so I've started to dig this whole Bemani thing (I know. I've played on both and find the Xbox to be superior in every way (that I care about anyway) except for two. I'm thinking of getting a PS2 to go along with my Xbox.
